WGB 59 chat with YPN member Brian Young:

 – "To have effective technical cooperation and discussions, we have to know each other"

We met YPN member Brian Young, U.S. Waveform Expert at Sandia National Laboratories at Working Group B (WGB) 59 in Vienna. What does he think about participating in WGB, expert group meetings, and the CTBT Young Professionals Network (YPN)? And what is the story behind his unconventional tie? Watch the video below to find out!

Brian Young thinks Working Group B needs the Young Professionals Network

 – I think the Young Professionals Network has a couple of important aspects. Socialization is one aspect. If you look around, a lot of people here at Working Group B have been here for many, many Working Group Bs, and many people retire every year. And they all know each other from 20 years ago... So to have effective technical cooperation and discussions, we have to know each other outside the purely country-to-country delegation format.

Brian also emphasizes the mentoring aspect of the network.

 – Hopefully, the Young Professionals Network is able to make more of a continuos distribution of technical experts to create sort of a pipeline for new staff to get involved in this technical area.
