Join us Monday October 7, 04:00 PM - 05:00 PM CEST for a tech talk on Challenges in the interpretation of radioxenon observations for CTBT verification with Christophe Gueibe!
Following the opening for signature of the CTBT, radioxenon monitoring systems were developed specifically for this purpose. The atmospheric radioxenon observations made with these systems indicated a complex worldwide background from civilian sources, in which traces of radioxenon from a clandestine nuclear weapon test might be lost.
In this presentation, the evolution of our understanding of the radioxenon background will be presented together with a summary of the research performed to alleviate the background issue. Remaining challenges will be discussed in view of the radionuclide analysis of the 2024 NDC preparedness exercise (no spoil!). The presentation will conclude with future perspectives on this topic.
Bio Christophe Gueibe
Christophe Gueibe is a researcher at SCK CEN in Belgium. He is a radionuclide expert and performs research in support of the CTBT verification, especially on noble gas monitoring. He is finalizing a PhD on this topic at Hasselt University in Belgium.
